Agricultural Production

Calendula Oil Ltd invites agricultural enterprises with experience in the cultivation of calendula, or those who wish to gain experience with the cultivation of specialty crops such as calendula, to investigate the possibilities with us. Calendula Oil Ltd can supply seedĀ cultivars which have been developed especially for oil production. These seeds have a high oil content (more than 20% with optimal cultivation), and are well suited to extraction processes. The most important conditions for succesful cultivation are:

  • A mild climate
  • Average daily minimum temperature: 8-14 °C
  • Average daily maximum temperature 17-23 °C (preferably 20 °C)
  • Average daily temperature: 14-18 °C (preferably 16 °C)
  • Average rainfall: 40-75 mm per month (55 mm)
  • No severe night frost after sowing
  • No strong presence of weed seeds

According to geographical location, a certain degree of deviation is possible.

The preparation of the soil is comparable to that of wheat crops.
Seeding distance depends on the manner of mechanical weed control.
Amount of seed per hectare: 13 kg

Yield per hectare: 2.000 kg or more.

Calendula is an excellent rotation crop, which is well suited to cultivation schemes with, e.g., wheat, potatoes, beans and other smaller crops. Cultivation of calendula has a positive impact on the yield of successive crops by preventing negative effects of continuous cropping of the same crop.

Participating agricultural businesses will receive extensive cultivation instructions and supervision in the first years of co-operation.

Extraction facilities (hexane) must be available in the region of production.
